Soputan in North Sulawesi province erupted and the Geological Disaster
Mitigation Center has raised the alert status to a level 3, meaning
"stand-by," following increased levels of volcanic activity. "Based on
our observations as of 3:00 pm on Monday, Mount Soputan's alert status
was raised to a level 3," the center's head, Surono, said on Monday
evening.
The volcano spewed hot gas, ash and dust particles.
